Beyond affirmative care is a consultation group for clinicians wishing to develop the knowledge, attitudes, skills, and comfort level needed to work effectively with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender clients.

Clinicians will learn to approach working with LGBTQIA+ clients through multidimensional models of sexual orientation and gender.

Group members will be invited to evaluate their own attitudes and biases that inevitably impact the therapeutic relationship. This group aims to create a non-judgmental space in which to provide relevant resources and share dialogue. Topics explored will include:

  • Stigmatization
  • Intersections of multiple identities
  • Career-related experiences
  • Nontraditional relationship forms
  • Issues relating to spirituality
  • Health disparities impacting communities
