Meet Joyce Zhao 赵书琪, LSW
Joyce works with individuals and groups across diverse age groups and socio-cultural backgrounds from a growth-oriented and strength-based perspective. Her areas of focus include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, life transitions, relationship issues, intergenerational challenges, and chronic illness coping. Joyce has a special interest in supporting clients to navigate the impacts of multi-cultural influences and transitions in their identity formation, as she brings in her own experience of living and working in the U.S., China and Japan as a former international student.
Joyce utilizes an engaging relational approach to help clients develop deeper insights into their unique experiences and identities and explore their strengths and growth in the complex challenges they face. In her work with clients, she integrates her trainings in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI), as well as tools and approaches from psychodynamic and mindfulness-based modalities. Joyce offers therapy in English and Mandarin.
Joyce is experienced in providing individual therapeutic support and leading support groups in diverse settings to clients with a wide range of conditions, ages, socio-economic status, and cultural backgrounds. She enjoys developing and facilitating groups, workshops, and other programs for socioemotional education, college preparation, vocational training, and wellness programs. She received her clinical training from Rush University Medical Center and earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Chicago and her Bachelor’s degree from Duke University.
