Meet Katya Viswanadhan, Psy.D.

Katya is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist experienced in working with adolescents, college and graduate students, and other young adults. Their areas of focus include eating disorders and body image concerns, anxiety, trauma, depression, mood disorders, and substance use. Katya has specialized training in working with eating disorders and body image issues, gender and sexuality, LGBTQ+ concerns, family and relationship issues, academic, social, intergenerational and adjustment pressures, and challenges related to culture, race, immigrant, and other diverse backgrounds and identities.

Engaging, affirming and collaborative, Katya integrates interpersonal and solution focused therapy, a relational-cultural and intersectional framework, psychodynamic and self-exploration approaches, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and crisis and stabilization interventions. They have expertise in developing groups for Latinx communties, students of color, and for queer and other intersectional identities, as well as interpersonal support groups for growth and recovery. Katya provides assessments, custom plans, individual and group therapy, and leads client workshops. They have basic fluency in Hindi.

Katya has worked in University Counseling, Community Mental Health, PHP and IOP programs. They have taught and supervised Bachelor’s, Masters and Doctoral psychology students and presented at conferences organized by the American Psychological Association and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. They are also active in community outreach and education, including workshops, seminars, and other programs. Katya completed their pre-doctoral residency at Stanford University Counseling and Psychological Services, and their post-doctoral fellowship at New York University, specializing in eating and body image concerns. They earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Mount Carmel College, a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Christ University of India, and a Psy.D from University of Indianapolis.
